Privacy policy
Last updated 12 August 2026
This explains what happens to your information when you use this website or register your interest in Building a Company of 1. It is written to be read, not to be waded through.
The short version: this site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from anyone else's servers. The only personal information collected is what you type into the registration form and send.
Who is responsible for your information
Building a Company of 1 is an independent programme created and delivered by Harri Davies, based in Bristol, United Kingdom. Harri Davies is the data controller for the information described here.
For anything in this policy, including any request about your own information, contact harri@bc1.co.uk.
What is collected, and when
When you register your interest. The registration form asks for your name, your email address, optionally a link to your LinkedIn profile, which of the two ways of working with BC1 you are interested in, your preferred location if you choose the Accelerator, and a description of what you are looking to build. You choose what to put in that last box.
When you email. If you email directly, that email and anything in it.
When you simply visit. The website is hosted on Google's Firebase Hosting, which keeps standard server logs. Those logs record things like your IP address, the time of the request, which page was requested and which browser made the request. Those logs are created by the hosting service, not by anything on the page.
What this site deliberately does not do
This is unusual enough to be worth stating plainly:
- No cookies are set. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.
- No analytics of any kind. No Google Analytics, no pixels, no heatmaps, no session recording.
- No advertising, no remarketing and no tracking across other websites.
- Nothing is loaded from a third-party server — no fonts, no scripts, no embedded video. Every file the page needs comes from this domain.
- Your information is never sold, rented or shared for anyone else's marketing.
How the registration form actually sends
At the moment the form does not transmit anything by itself. When you press Register interest, it opens a new message in your own email application with your answers already filled in, addressed to Harri. Nothing is sent until you send that email, and you can read and change it first.
If a form service is connected in future so that registrations arrive without needing your email application, this policy will be updated to name that service before the change is made.
Why your information is used, and the lawful basis
- To read and reply to your registration, and to assess whether BC1 is a fit. The lawful basis is legitimate interests: you have approached BC1 about taking part, and replying to you is the obvious purpose.
- To run the programme if you are offered and accept a place. The lawful basis is performance of a contract.
- To keep the website available and secure, using the hosting logs described above. The lawful basis is legitimate interests.
You will not be added to a mailing list off the back of registering. If a newsletter ever exists, it will ask you separately and you will be able to leave at any time.
Who else can see it
Only the following, and only because they provide the tools used to run BC1:
- Google — as the provider of Firebase Hosting for this website, and of Google Workspace for email. Google acts as a processor and holds the hosting logs and any email correspondence.
- A form service, if one is connected in future. None is connected today.
No one else. There are no advertising, analytics or data-broker relationships.
Where it is held, and for how long
Email and hosting are provided by Google, which may store and process data outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers rely on the safeguards in the UK data protection regime, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the European Commission's adequacy decision for the UK.
Registrations are kept for as long as there is a reason to keep them — while a conversation is live, and afterwards for a reasonable period in case a future cohort is a better fit. If you would rather that did not happen, say so and it will be deleted. Participant records are kept for as long as needed to run the programme and to meet legal and accounting obligations. Hosting logs are kept for the period set by the hosting provider, which is short.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to:
- see a copy of the information held about you;
- have anything inaccurate corrected;
- have it deleted;
- have its use restricted, or object to its use;
- receive it in a portable form;
- withdraw consent, where consent was the basis.
Email harri@bc1.co.uk and it will be dealt with within one month. There is no charge, and you do not need to give a reason.
Complaints
If you think your information has been handled badly, please raise it directly first — it is quicker, and most things are a misunderstanding.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version replaces this one on this page and the date at the top changes with it. Material changes — a new processor, a new purpose, a form service being connected — will be described rather than slipped in.
